Prof. dr hab. Mariusz Lemańczyk from the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science of the Nicolaus Copernicus University was awarded the prestigious Medal of Wacław Sierpiński. The jury appreciated the outstanding contribution of the scientist to the development of ergodic theory, the theory of dynamical systems and their relations with the theory of numbers.
The Sierpinski Medal is awarded to mathematicians associated with Poland with outstanding scientific achievements. The University of Warsaw and the Polish Mathematical Society have awarded it since 1974. On the day of receiving the medal, the laureates give a lecture at the University of Warsaw called the Lecture of Wacław Sierpiński.
