Prof. dr hab. Mariusz Lemańczyk from the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science was the first scientist from the Nicolaus Copernicus University in history to be invited to give a lecture at the 2022 International Congress of Mathematicians. This is one of the greatest distinctions in the mathematical community.

The International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) is the largest and most important conference on theoretical and applied mathematics and one of the world's oldest scientific congresses. The first ICM was held in
Zurich, Switzerland in 1897. ICM conferences are organized every four years by the International Mathematical Union in cooperation with host country organizers.

The list of scientists invited to deliver a lecture at next year's 29th edition of the event, which will be held on July 6-14, 2022 in St. Petersburg, has just been announced. In the prestigious group - as the only Polish representative - is prof. dr hab. Mariusz Lemańczyk from the Department of Ergodic Theory and Dynamical Systems, WMiI UMK, whose speech will be presented in the "Dynamics" section.
